What to expect from the course
- We are now offering an exciting opportunity to do a VRQ Level 3 qualification in Barbering. You will cover a number of units, covering a number of styles and techniques such as: monitor and maintain health and safety, consultation, cut men's hair to create a variety of looks, cut facial hair to create a variety of looks, creative hairdressing design skills, provide shaving and face massage.
There are a number of optional units, such as: human resources management within the hair and beauty sector, design and create patterns in hair, provide scalp massage services.
The Barbering Level 3 Diploma is aimed at people who would like to pursue a career within this fast growing industry, or for those already working in industry that would like to further develop their skills.
A variety of teaching methods are used to include practical workshops, working in commercial salon and theory.
There is a strong emphasis on developing employability skills throughout the programme of study to include community work and work experience placement. This course is Advanced Learner Loan eligible, which can fully cover the course fee.Qualifications

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free
When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.
Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite
The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.
Career pathways
- Once you successfully complete your course you may be able to progress to the next level, following a satisfactory interview with a tutor. If you’ve finished your Level 3 course you will be offered advice and guidance from our Careers Advisors on how to apply for a place at University through UCAS, or how to apply for a job or an apprenticeship.
Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 courses generally last for one year.

Entry Requirements
The following is a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry onto the course.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 (previously C) or above including Maths and English Language OR a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above including Maths and English Language and relevant subject qualification OR a minimum of Level 2 course in your chosen subject at merit or above and English Language and Maths at Level 2.
An enthusiasm and passion to succeed and develop yourself with great attendance will be vital to you achieving success on this course.

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free.
