About the Apprenticeship
Supporting engineers, surveyors and architects on construction projects.

About the Role
A building services design technician provides assistance to engineers and other construction professionals in the development of cost effective technical and sustainable design solutions involving the production of three dimensional models, calculations, specifications, reports and drawings taking into account, where appropriate, pre-fabrication techniques. Their work typically includes systems such as renewable technologies, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, drainage, lighting, power, controls and lifts.


On-Programme Learning
Apprentices need to complete 20% off-the-job training during the on-programme phase of their apprenticeship.Specific rules govern this and it must take place in the apprentice’s contracted hours.

Knowledge
Design Technicians will understand the different techniques and methods used to design building engineering services projects and the appropriate scientific, technical and engineering principles relating to the design of building engineering services projects. They will understand how to work effectively and contribute to engineering solutions by the correct use of resources and time and how to communicate effectively using a range of techniques.

Skills
Design Technicians will be able to select and use appropriate scientific, technical and engineering principles, techniques and methods to contribute to the design and delivery of building engineering services projects and work with others to contribute to producing integrated engineering solutions by the correct use of resources and time. They will manage and maintain the quality of their work and that of others and communicate effectively and appropriately with others using a range of techniques.

BehavioursApprentices will take a responsible approach to health and safety and be professional, proactive and receptive to constructive advice and guidance. They will be willing to learn new skills and to adapt in the light of experience and will know one’s limitations and when to ask for help or escalate. They will work independently when appropriate and take responsibility for and pride in their work and demonstrate a positive approach to problem solving.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

Apprentices who complete this standard will be well placed to progress onto Building Services Engineering Technician L4 or other Level 4 construction qualification.
