What to expect from the course

A BTEC Level 3 Building Services Engineering Diploma is an engaging programme aimed at students who are looking for a challenging career in the Building Services Industry. This is a part-time course (one day a week) which runs for two years.
The course is designed for students who are working in the Building Services industry and are being released by their employer one day a week to study.

The course contains two units which are externally assessed - Construction Principles and Construction Design. Additional subjects studied will include Construction technology, Health and Safety in Construction, Low Temperature Hot Water Systems in Building Services, Provision of Primary Services in Construction and Building Services Science. The course also contains additional optional units relevant to the Building Services sector .

The content is delivered through a blend of lectures, seminars, tutorials, site visits, field trips and guest speakers. Assessment is through a blend of assignments, practical tasks and job knowledge tasks. Each subject is awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction and the combined marks produce the final overall grade in the range PP to D*D* for the course as a whole.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

Completion of this course provides a number of options in both education and employment and sets you on your way to becoming a professional within the built environment. In employment, the course prepares you to enter the Building Services Engineering industry at trainee level, with the possibility of progression to study a Higher Education course part-time. Possible areas within the sector include: Mechanical Design, Electrical Design, Facilities Management and Sustainability Engineering. In education, the course prepares you for Higher Education, bringing your professional and academic knowledge up to the required level allowing you to progress onto a number of Higher Education courses including HNC in Construction in the Built Environment ( Building Services) offered within the college.

Entry Requirements

For learners who have recently been in education the entry requirements are as follows:5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including maths, English and Science.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19 or over and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.
