Course Year: 22/23
The Higher National Diploma Top-up in Business expands on students' previous learning at Level 4 and allows them to grow their understanding and knowledge of the major elements of business.
The HND in Business is a blended course that offers an innovative mix of classroom based learning and self-directed learning online. The course can be studied over one-year full-time or over two-years part time.
The course prepares students for further study or graduate roles in a range of related areas, such as management, administration, personnel, marketing, accounting and law.
How will I be taught?
The course is blended, therefore there is a mix of teacher centred learning together with students taking ownership of their own learning via the Pearson website. This is a very important aspect of the course to ensure successful completion and understanding.
Teaching is conducted a variety of ways including but not limited to student centred learning and discussions/debates. Resources will be made available before and after each session to assist with learning.
How will I be assessed?
The programme is assessed through the submission of written essays, reports and reflective logs and a series of project-based practical work-based assessments.
Formative feedback will support student progression in both written work and business outcomes.
Self and peer assessment in convener/critique situations will be an essential element of all projects and the feedback from these will enhance student achievement and progression.
Who is the course intended for?
The Higher National Diploma is a strong foundation for students continuing to university to complete a degree. The level of independent research and critical thinking, as well as the assessment methodology, helps to prepare students for university.
Students may be required to purchase their own materials for any specialist projects they undertake as part of the course.
Please note: this course will only run when it has a sufficient number of applicants.
Higher nationals are designed to provide a specialist vocational programme linked to professional body requirements and National Occupational Standards, where appropriate. They offer a strong, sector-related emphasis on practical skills development alongside the development of requisite knowledge and understanding. The qualifications provide a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in their sector and their national recognition by employers allows direct progression to employment.
