Course Details

  • Applying for A Levels: When you complete your application form, you can apply for just one subject, and add the other subjects into the 'Career Path' section. For example, complete the application for Psychology A Level, and type 'Sociology A Level and English A Level' in the 'Career Path' box. You do not need to complete multiple applications for each subject. If we need more information, we will contact you.

What to expect from the course

Business Studies is much more than a subject confined to the four walls of the classroom. From every purchase you make, from every company name you hear in the news, business exist all around us, and at some point in your life, some of these businesses have convinced you to purchase their products and services. If you want to become part of this phenomenon, then an A-Level in Business Studies is the solution for you.
Whether you end up working in a small / large business, or anywhere you have to work with people, an education in Business Studies will stay with you for life.
The A Level will entail 3 exams in Summer set by Edexcel, which are broken down as follows:
? Theme 1 – Market, People and Global Business
? Theme 2 – Activities, Decisions and Strategies
? Theme 3 – ‘Investigating Business’

With extensive experience in corporate hospitality, managing restaurants at the Grand National, running events with Royal guests, working in Spain, living in both France and Spain, and a further variety of lower roles in a range of businesses, there is ample opportunity for outside experiences to be brought into the classroom. In addition, the College has extensive industry links across a wide range of employers, through which work experience opportunities can be arranged to supplement and enhance the learning experience. Links have been forged with the Liverpool One management company, and this provides a relevant and accessible opportunity throughout the year.

Academy Bakery

The Academy Bakery is located on the Duke Street campus, producing a range of first class baked goods daily. These include artisan breads, patisserie and biscuits, as well as special occasion/novelty cakes by award-winning master-bakers. Students are offered a range of discounts throughout the year.

Academy Hair and Beauty Salons

Duke Street is also home to The Academy Hair and Beauty salons. They offer generous student discounts on a wide range of hair and beauty treatments, at a fraction of high-street prices. These include styling, cutting, perming, highlights, facials, manicures, electrolysis and traditional and homeopathic massage.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

Today there is an increasing demand for employees with business skills, whether you end up working for a large company or not, Business Studies will help you immensely. Depending on your particular specialisms and other subject choices, Business Studies will help you on a Law, Science, Languages or Social Science path! The transferable skills learned in the Business A-Level will prepare you for the future challenges that lie ahead.

The A Level will also develop the skills you need to pursue a goal of studying at university.

Entry Requirements

A Level Entry Requirements for 16-18s:
The most important entry requirement is that you are committed and determined to do well
You need to achieve a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, with at least 2 at Grade 5. These must include Maths and English.
To study this particular A level you need to achieve Grade 5 in GCSE Maths and English

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.

24 years old or over or 19-23 and have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) at the start of the course, fees are payable by all students unless sponsored by an employer.

Fee for24/25 is 500.00
In future years this fee may be subject to change.
