What to expect from the course

Our BTEC Level 3 Civil Engineering Diploma is an engaging programme aimed at students who are looking for a challenging career in the Civil Engineering industry.

This is a part-time course (one day a week) which runs for two years. The course is designed for students who are working in the Civil Engineering industry and are being released by their employer one day a week to study. The course contains two units which are externally assessed - Construction Principles and Construction Design.

Additional units include Health and Safety in construction, Construction technology, Site Engineering for Construction, Further Mathematics for Construction and Construction in Civil Engineering. In addition, other optional units have been selected to meet the needs of employers. The course is delivered through a blend of lectures, seminars, tutorials, site visits, field trips and guest speakers.

Qualifications

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Civil Engineering (equivalent to 2 A levels).

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

Completion of this course provides a number of options in both education and employment and sets you on your way to becoming a professional within the built environment. In employment, the course prepares you to enter the Civil Engineering industry at trainee level, with the possibility of studying a Higher Education course part-time. Possible areas within the sector include: Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering and Highway Engineering. In education, the course prepares you for Higher Education, bringing your professional and academic knowledge up to the required level allowing you to progress onto a number of Higher Education courses, including the HNC in Construction and the Built Environment ( Civil Engineering) offered in the college.

Entry Requirements

For learners who have recently been in education the entry requirements are as follows:5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including maths, English and Science.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19 or over and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.

19 years old or over and have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) at the start of the course? Fees are payable, but you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course. Please note this is a two year programme that consists of two courses. Your fee status may change from one year to the next depending on age and circumstance at the start of the next course e.g. if you turn 19 before progressing to the next level, you may be required to pay fees as outlined above.
