What to expect from the course

A BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma is an engaging programme which takes 1 year to complete. It can lead onto the Extended Diploma in year 2 ( overall, the equivalent of 3 A levels after the two years of study).

The course contains two units which are externally assessed in the first year- Construction Principles and Construction Design. Additional units include Health and Safety in construction, Construction technology, Graphical Detailing in Construction, Building Regulations and Control in Construction and Building Surveying in Construction where optional units have been selected to meet the needs of employers.

The course is delivered through a blend of lectures, seminars, tutorials, site visits, field trips and guest speakers. The course is assessed through a blend of external examinations, assignments and practical tasks.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

The BTEC Foundation Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment can lead on to the Extended Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment to complete the two years of study, allowing access to employment, higher education or further training.

The qualification can lead to a professional career in Architecture, Building Control, Building Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Estate and Housing Management, Quantity Surveying, Land Surveying, Structural and Services Engineering.

Entry Requirements

For learners who have recently been in education the entry requirements are as follows:5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including maths, English and Science.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19 or over and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.

19 years old or over and have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) at the start of the course? Fees are payable, but you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course.
