Course information
A BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate is an engaging programme aimed at students who are looking for a challenging career in the Construction, Architecture or Civil Engineering industry. This is a full-time course (two evenings a week) which runs for one year. The course contains two units which are externally assessed - Construction Principles and Construction Design. Two additional units are Health and Safety in construction and Construction technology. The course is delivered through a blend of lectures, seminars, tutorials, independent study and guest speakers. The course is assessed through external examinations, assignments and practical tasks. Each subject is awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction and the combined marks produce the final overall grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction for the course as a whole.
The course runs over 2 evenings for 6 hours per week for 34 weeks and will take one year.

Qualifications
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Construction and the Built Environment (equivalent to one A Level)

Completion of this course provides a number of options in both education and employment and sets you on your way to becoming a professional within the built environment.In employment, the course prepares you to enter the construction industry at trainee level, with the possibility of studying a Higher Education course. The course could help you work in a technical, supervisory or managerial role. Possible areas within the sector include: Architecture, Civil Engineering, Surveying, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Planning, Construction Management, Planning, Highways and Environmental Services. In education, the course prepares you for Higher Education, bringing your professional and academic knowledge up to the required level allowing you to progress onto a number of Higher National courses. Please note that for some university courses you may need GCSE English and/or Maths and Science at C or above. You must check this with the universities you may wish to apply to.
Entry Requirements
For learners who have recently been in education the entry requirements are as follows:- Four GCSEs at grade C or above (including Maths & English, or- BTEC First Diploma in Construction, or- NVQ Level 3 Qualification
Adult students may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include experience of paid and/or unpaid employment and you will be able to demonstrate your suitability at interview.
