What to expect from the course

BTEC Diplomas are vocational courses involving practical and theory based work. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you are interested in, you will develop the skills you need to start and/or further develop your education and career.

Core units you may study include - Electronic / Electrical Principles, Business Systems, Maths for Technicians, Communications, Project, and Health and Safety.

Specialist units you may study include - Analogue Electronics, Digital Electronics, Micro Electronics, Electronic Fault Finding, Electronic Circuit Manufacture, Further Electrical Principles, Programmable Logic Controllers, etc.

In terms of alternative and future employment prospects, the Engineering Department will support students trying to obtain work placements in the Engineering industry.

Qualifications

BTEC Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Electronic Engineering.
Depending on the route chosen, additional qualifications may also be awarded such as Level 2/3 Certificate in Computer Aided Design.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

Please note that for some university courses you may need GCSE Maths, English and Science at C or above. Additionally depending on the course you wish to study at University, the qualification may need to be supplemented with an additional Maths qualification e.g. Maths for Engineers (OCR) or A level Maths. You must check this with universities you may wish to apply to.

Entry Requirements

One of the following will provide minimum entry requirements for the course:
BTEC First Diploma/Certificate at merit or distinction in a related subject,
5 GCSEs at grade C or above including Maths, Science and English,
Appropriate industrial experience.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19 or over and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.

19 years old or over and have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) at the start of the course? Fees are payable, but you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course.
