What to expect from the course

The intent of this study programme is to prepare you for progression to the next level of study or into employment in your chosen trade.

The Level 1 programme is a great way to start your career, as it enables you to develop the skills and knowledge required whilst applying safe practice alongside gaining confidence to progress in college and into the Building Services industry.

On this course, you will develop skills that enable you to select and install wiring systems. You will also learn the skills which allow you to work with different types of cables and electrical accessories. You will gain knowledge in the requirements of Health & Safety in electrical installations, whilst developing your practical skills to install electrical systems safely and in accordance with relevant electrical requirements and building regulations.

As an Electrician you'll need the ability to intricately work with your hands, be able to work well as a team, as well as alone and be able to problem solve. You'll also need to be precise, accurate and be able to follow instructions

Alongside Electrical, you must have a dedicated approach to your English or maths sessions. Our expectation is you will make progress by improving the level you have achieved at school or college. You will be assessed for your English and Maths to ensure that you are working at the correct level.

If you have no prior experience and are not employed, then this course might just be what you are looking for.

This programme will help you develop key skills to improve your opportunities of gaining employment. Employers demand that all potential employees can:

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

On successful completion you may be able to progress onto Level 2 courses like:
• L2 Electrical studies
• L3 Electrical Standard Apprenticeship (if employed as an Electrician)

Entry Requirements

You do not need to have any formal qualifications in Electrical, but you will need to show that you have an interest in the area. You will need have a GCSE Grade 4 or above in English or Maths.

Important Note:

All students are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment in the workshops. Students may be able to purchase these through the college at a reduced cost.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, and you need to study at Entry or Level 1 to progress to Level 2, you won't have to pay any fees for this course.
