What to expect from the course

Interested in a career in fashion? The world of fashion is exciting and dynamic with a broad range of career opportunities.

This innovative course covers a wide spectrum of related studies including:-
• Visual language
• Material techniques and processes
• Ideas and concepts
• Communication
• Contextual research
• Planning and problem solving

Year 1: The course consists of a number of exciting assignment briefs to include working on live project briefs, which are internally assessed. The final assignment is a controlled externally assessed project graded by the awarding body.

Year 2: This year consists of a number of assignment briefs developed within your chosen area of fashion which is externally assessed and externally moderated.

Take part in educational visits. Previous visits have included London Fashion Week, The Clothes Show Live, Victoria & Albert Fashion Museum and the Royal Armouries Museum. Student work is showcased each year in the end of year Fashion Show.

Students will achieve:
UAL Level 3 Applied General Diploma Fashion (Year 1)
UAL Level 3 Applied General Extended Diploma Fashion (Year 2)



Why study with us?

This is the only programme offering UAL Level 3 Fashion in the City. The course has excellent progression to prestigious universities for students to study Fashion.
Students participate in educational visits and live project briefs throughout the academic year. They develop a professional portfolio preparing them for progression to a higher level of study. All students exhibit their work at an end of year fashion how within the city centre attended by family, friends the awarding body and employers.

Academy Bakery

The Academy Bakery is located on the Duke Street campus, producing a range of first class baked goods daily. These include artisan breads, patisserie and biscuits, as well as special occasion/novelty cakes by award-winning master-bakers. Students are offered a range of discounts throughout the year.

Academy Hair and Beauty Salons

Duke Street is also home to The Academy Hair and Beauty salons. They offer generous student discounts on a wide range of hair and beauty treatments, at a fraction of high-street prices. These include styling, cutting, perming, highlights, facials, manicures, electrolysis and traditional and homeopathic massage.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

Employment within the fashion and clothing industry as a fashion designer, illustrator, stylist, pattern cutter, garment technologist, fashion buyer, fashion retail manager or supervisor, small business owner, visual merchandiser, production manager.

This qualification will help gain entry onto one of the higher education courses such as, Foundation Degree, BA in Fashion, Design and Textile related studies, and other degree programmes in Higher Education. Many of our students progress to degree courses at London College of Fashion, UCLAN, Manchester Metropolitan University, LJMU, Leeds College of Art etc.

Entry Requirements

Designed for all learners with 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above and/or a level 2 qualification at grade Merit or above.You must have at least one GCSE in Maths and/or English at grade 4 or above.

Learners aged 19 and over with an outstanding portfolio of artwork will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.

24 years old or over or 19-23 and have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) at the start of the course? Fees are payable, but you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course. In future years this fee may be subject to change.

Please note this is a two year programme that consists of two courses. Your fee status may change from one year to the next depending on age and circumstance at the start of the next course e.g. if you turn 19 before progressing to the next level, you may be required to pay fees as outlined above.
