Course Details

  • Want to enter the world of games, one of the fastest growing industries? Or even develop skills that could lead you into other industries such as the route of software development?
  • With our Games Design programme, you will develop your skills using industry software and hardware. See your work come to life in our state-of-the-art motion capture suite.
  • 1-year course taught over 3 or 4 days, Maths and English will be studied alongside at GCSE or Functional Skills.
  • Start: September.
  • Full academic year (September – June).

What to expect from the course

What does it cover? (modules)
Introduction and develop skills in 3D modelling as well as understanding how modelling is used within games and other industries.
Create Menu systems, button designs and floorplans to develop your perfect game environment in Unreal Engine 4.
Build skills in 2D animation using photoshop

Unit 1: Introduction to creative media methods and skills
Unit 2: Introduction to production techniques and creative media
Unit 3: Understanding an audience in creative media
Unit 4: Contextual research for creative media production
Unit 5,6,7: Exploring Audio, Visual and interactive media production technologies

What will I achieve?
Your study programme (16-18):
UAL Level 2 Diploma in creative media production.
Continue to develop Maths and English
Tutorial and Work experience will be part of the study programme to develop life skills, build confidence to progress in your career journey.

Your study programme (19+):
UAL Level 2 Diploma in creative media production.
NCFE Level 2 certificate in Data protection.
Opportunity for Level 2 in Employability Skills.
Opportunity to develop Maths and English.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

On successful completion of this course, you’ll be ready to progress onto our Level 3 Diploma in Games Development. Progression is not restricted and there is still opportunity to progress into our Level 3 Diploma in IT.

Entry Requirements

Who is it suitable for?
Open to learners of all ages.
Ideal if you have an interest in working in the games development industry. No experience needed in software.
Ideal for you if you have a Level 1 qualification or equivalent. (Grade 2s and 3s in Maths and English)

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free.
