What to expect from the course

The UAL Diploma Level 2 in Digital Art and Graphic Design course is designed for students to gain their first Level 2 design qualification. It enables you to pursue a career in the visual and creative industries by developing the skills needed to succeed in a competitive environment.

Through project assignments, you'll have the opportunity to explore a range of digital and art based design disciplines such as graphic design, illustration, web design, digital photography, art production and visual communication.

The aim of this course is to develop your skills and a knowledge base in the field of graphic design covering disciplines in 3D design, digital graphics and illustration for the advertising and marketing industries.

The delivery of the programme is through: project assignment work, practical demonstrations, workshops, lectures, mini tasks, group critiques, presentations, contextual studies, historical studies, theory and research.

Each student's individual portfolio will show samples of work which explore digital and artistic techniques, methods and approaches. You'll also develop cultural awareness and a mature attitude towards a potential career in your chosen field.
The course covers core skills such as drawing, creative thinking, design theory, research and communication skills.

In addition, specific software tool skills will be gained in industry-based packages such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Cinema 4D, web design in HTML5.

This is a one year course programme consisting of 3-4 assignment projects for study. On completion of these 7 units, you will get to write your own project based final major project.

The majority of students who successfully complete the course go on to Further Education. Alternatively, students have gone straight into employment/self employment and have developed careers in the industry.

In addition, the course has a commitment to develop the student experience by offering regular excursions to all gallery and events throughout Merseyside.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.

Entry Requirements

Designed for all learners with a grade profile of 3 GCSEs at grade 3 and 4 and/or level 1 qualification at grade Merit or above. English and Maths GCSEs are not required, however you will need to work toward these within the academic year.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free.
