Course information
At the City of Liverpool College, our programme enables you to learn both aspects of hairdressing and media make-up. The mandatory section of this qualification will provide you with all the skills and techniques to enable you to; provide effective client care, the art of applying make-up or photographic makeup, the creative art of dressing hair and the unit that covers creating an image using both hairdressing and media make-up skills.
Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge and understanding of each unit including health and safety for all services. The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in both hairdressing and media make-up to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to perform your own salon services.
This course is fast paced, creative and delivered to a strict time scale. You will need to be highly motivated and be able to work positively as a member of a team and independently. You will also undertake some work experience to prepare you for industry. Full attendance is essential for a successful completion of the course.

This programme enables you to develop the skills needed for employment in the hairdressing or beauty therapy industries as a junior stylist/therapist or to work as an independent stylist specialising in hair and media make-up. You can also undertake further study in:
Level 3 Diploma in Make-up Artistry
Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up
Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing
Level 2 Diploma in Barbering
Entry Requirements
All methods are selected to meet the levels and ability of each individual student.
It is desirable but not essential to have GCSEs at grade 3 (equivalent to grade D) or above, including English and maths or successful completion of a Level 1 course in a related subject area. Prospective students may be asked to sit an initial assessment to determine their current levels of literacy and numeracy, if they do not fit into the above category.
It is essential that applicants demonstrate an appropriate level on inter-personal skills at interview as this is a customer focused industry.
