Course Details

  • The objective of this qualification is to give you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in IT.
  • A chance to work on live briefs with national employers such as Visbox, Avalanche studios and the NHS.
  • Start: September.
  • 1-year course taught over 3 or 4 days, Maths or English will be studied alongside at GCSE.

Unit 1: Information Technology Systems
Unit 2: Creating systems to manage information
Unit 3: Using social media in Business
Unit 4: Programming
Unit 5: Data modelling
Unit 6: Website development


If you are successful in the first year then you will have the opportunity to progress onto the second year to complete the following:

Year 2
Unit 9: IT project management
Unit 11: Cybersecurity and incident management
Unit 14: IT service and delivery
Unit 16: Cloud storage and collaboration tools
Unit 17: Digital 2D and 3D graphics
Unit 18: Digital Animation and effects
Unit 19: The internet of things

You will study the relationship between hardware and software, managing and communicating information and data, and the principles of designing and developing digital technologies and processes to support organisations.

How is it assessed?
You will be internally assessed through assignments set and marked by your teachers. Work will be graded at a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Two externally assessed exams in January.

BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Information Technology
Continue to develop Maths or English
Tutorial and Work experience will be part of the study programme to develop life skills, build confidence to progress in your career journey.

NCFE Level 2 certificate in Cyber security principles
Opportunity for Level 2 in Employability Skills

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways


On successful completion of the first year, you can progress onto the second year to achieve the Level 3 extended diploma. From this course, you’ll have the expert skills and experience needed to progress into a variety of careers and including the games industry. If you are interested in continuing your studies, there is the opportunity progress into Higher education on HNC in computing.

Entry Requirements

Open to learners of all ages.

You will require at least 5 relevant GCSEs 4-9 or a relevant Level 2, including at least one of Maths or English.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19 or over and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.

19 years old or over and have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) at the start of the course? Fees are payable, but you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course. In future years this fee may be subject to change.

Please note this is a two year programme that consists of two courses. Your fee status may change from one year to the next depending on age and circumstance at the start of the next course e.g. if you turn 19 before progressing to the next level, you may be required to pay fees as outlined above.
