What to expect from the course

About the Apprenticeship
Develop, implement and maintain complete IT solutions such as networks, operating systems and applications.

About the Role
IT Solutions Technicians develop, implement and maintain complete IT solutions, including their hardware infrastructure (such as servers and networks) and software (such as operating systems, middleware and applications). They work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Many such teams will be modern “DevOps” style teams, which carry out the full set of stages across the whole solution lifecycle: requirements gathering, solution development, testing, implementation and ongoing support. There are two pathways in this role: IT Hardware Solutions Technicians and IT Software Solutions Technicians.


On-Programme Learning
Apprentices need to complete 20% off-the-job training during the on-programme phase of their apprenticeship.Specific rules govern this and it must take place in the apprentice’s contracted hours

Knowledge
Apprentices will understand the stages within the overall solution lifecycle and the main principals, features, differences and benefits of Waterfall and Agile type methodologies and the function of service management frameworks. They will have a knowledge of the purpose of an Operating System and the concepts of Cloud, Cloud Services and storage. Apprentices will understand the meaning of risk in the context of security and can explain the relationship between levels of risk in IT Solutions.

Skills
IT Solutions Technicians apply a range of technical IT skills, including: accessing remote systems; file manipulation; file editing, changing system or application settings; system administration; setting up and upgrading components (infrastructure or software). They operate in line with organisational polices, standards, legislation, security requirements, professional ethics, privacy and confidentiality; and understands escalation policies.

IT Solutions Technicians work professionally and independently, taking responsibility and initiative as appropriate. They demonstrate standard business courtesies and professional ethics in how they work.They will demonstrate a productive and organised approach to their work and work effectively with customers, clients and users.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

Apprentices will be well placed to progress onto Level 4 apprenticeship programmes in areas such as Software Development and Network Engineering.

    Entry Requirements

    Entry requirements are typically determined b y the employer, but generally include 5 GCSE' s grade A-C, or ability to demonstrate the a ppropriate knowledge, skills and competency l evels.
