What to expect from the course

At the City of Liverpool College, our programme enables you to develop your skills as a professional makeup artist. You will gain skills and knowledge in instructing clients on make-up application, media make-up including applying small ready-made prosthetic pieces, fashion and photographic make-up, camouflage make-up, face and body art. You will also have the opportunity to gain skills in airbrush make-up, styling and fitting head and facial postiche (wigs and hairpieces). It also provides a sound platform for further learning. We provide you with industry specialist opportunities to aid in the development of your career.

As a training make-up artist you will exercise a variety of specialist techniques in the following units; media, fashion and photographic make-up, camouflage make-up, face and body art, styling and fitting head and facial postiche monitor and maintain health and safety, client care and communication, style and fit a postiche.

This course is fast paced, creative and delivered to a strict time scale. You will need to be highly motivated and be able to work positively as a member of a team and independently.

You will also undertake some work experience to prepare you for industry. Full attendance is essential for a successful completion of the course. This is an advanced qualification and requires students to have some knowledge of hair and make-up, it is essential for applicants to have a level 2 make up qualification or equivalent. For our Level 2 qualification, please refer back to the hair and beauty section. This course is Advanced Learner Loan eligible, which can fully cover the course fee

These include styling, cutting, perming, highlights, facials, manicures, electrolysis and traditional and homeopathic massage.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

Once you successfully complete your course you may be able to progress to the next level, following a satisfactory interview with a tutor. If you’ve finished your Level 3 course you will be offered advice and guidance from our Careers Advisors on how to apply for a place at University through UCAS, or how to apply for a job or an apprenticeship.

Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 courses generally last for one year.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 (previously C) or above including Maths and English language OR a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above including Maths and English language and relevant subject qualification OR Minimum of Level 2 course in chosen subject at merit or above and English language and Maths at level 2.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free.

In future years this fee may be subject to change.

Please note this is a two year programme that consists of two courses. Your fee status may change from one year to the next depending on age and circumstance at the start of the next course e.g. if you turn 19 before progressing to the next level, you may be required to pay fees as outlined above.
