What to expect from the course

The primary outcome of the VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Nail Treatments is to prepare you to enter the specific sector of beauty therapy as a nail technician. All the units in this qualification relate directly to the specific job role of nail technician.

The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Nail Treatments is a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a nail technician. This qualification is designed for students aged 16 years or over and will support you to gain employment as a nail technician, as the units contained in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role. This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a nail technician including mandatory units covering the following: providing manicure and pedicure treatments, health and safety and client care and communication.

You will further develop your understanding and skills by covering specialist units which include: maintaining nail enhancements using the Acrylic system Tip & Overlay, working with others and providing nail art. The structure of this qualification will enable you to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required for the role of nail technician.
Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety, client care and nail products and equipment. You will also develop a range of technical skills enabling you to prepare and enhance the nails and cuticles on the hands and feet using different techniques. You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.

The VTCT Level 2 Award in LED Gel Polish Techniques is a single unit award qualification about applying, maintaining and removing LED gel polish products to the nails.
This qualification aims to enable you to enhance the ranges of services and techniques offered to nail services clients.
This qualification also covers the skills and knowledge required to prepare for the service and maintain effective health, safety and hygiene working practices throughout the treatment.

The VTCT Level 2 Award in Preparing to Run a Hair and Beauty Business has been specially designed to enable you to gain the skills, knowledge and understanding required to be a successful beauty therapy or hairdressing entrepreneur, including an awareness of the benefits and risks involved in running your own business.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

Once you successfully complete your course you may be able to progress to the next level, following a satisfactory interview with a tutor. If you’ve finished your Level 3 course you will be offered advice and guidance from our Careers Advisors on how to apply for a place at University through UCAS, or how to apply for a job or an apprenticeship.

Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 courses generally last for one year.

Entry Requirements

Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 3 (previously D) or above including Maths and English language OR Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 3 or above including Maths and English Language and relevant subject qualification or Minimum of a Level 1 course in chosen subject at merit or above and English language and Maths at Level 1.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, and you need to study at Entry or Level 1 to progress to Level 2, you won't have to pay any fees for this course.
