Our Dance course explores a variety of styles in dance including Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Commercial as well as building creative, practical skills in Devising and Choreography. We will give you training in current practices whilst still acknowledging the established Dance practitioners and companies of the past. Your practical work is underpinned by a variety of research and academic writing sessions, so not only will you learn about the context and history of your craft, but you will engage in rehearsals, workshops, demonstrations and performances. This implements your knowledge into practical, vocational work.
You have the opportunity to improve technical elements across a versatile curriculum delivered by industry professionals and experienced teachers. You will not only be set technique work but will have sessions delivered on Devising and choreographic methods to ensure you gain an understanding of how Dance works and how it can be put together as a framework.
The HNC in Performing Arts will teach you transferable skills which can cross over into a variety of skillsets and disciplines; Education, Production Management, Producing, Choreography, as well as other creative industries such as PR, Journalism and Hospitality.
Our staff members are experienced and qualified teachers, with specialised knowledge to ensure you are prepared for the industry and present yourself as an employable, ready-to-work-hard, resilient and engaged creative. With a focus on collaboration across disciplines, tutors and styles, you’ll gain a great level of versatility, relevant to today’s Performing Arts industry.
In a normal, non-COVID19 world, we would require all students across Performing Arts to engage with responsibilities such as Front of House, Ushering, Box Office and Backstage Assistance. In a COVID19 world, we have pressed the pause button on our theatre for now, whilst everyone gets used to the new requirements and measures being taken. This means we can really hone and refine your technique, knowledge and skills and build up to a fantastic 2021 Summer season!
