Professional Chefs – Diploma Level 3 NVQ (one day per week)
Level 3 is ideal if you've worked in a professional kitchen for some time or have a Level 2 qualification. This qualification allows you to step up your cooking standards to a higher level on a course that is delivered on one day per week for a full academic year. The Catering and Hospitality sector is without doubt one of the fastest growing industries in the UK with a vast amount of employment opportunities.
The need for skilled chef’s increases annually and having a Level 3 Professional Chefs NVQ will be the benchmark for employers. Such qualified chefs are expected to perform at the highest level consistently in an often busy and challenging kitchen environment.
To gain an NVQ, you need to show you've got a particular set of skills. You will work in our professional kitchens and be assessed by culinary experts to review your current skills and find the best way to gain new ones.
For each unit your assessor watches and asks questions as you perform a task, they also look at a portfolio of work that you've built as formal evidence of your learning. Then they confirm you've got the skills to do the job well.
If you choose the Diploma in Professional Cookery you'll develop vital skills in food safety and hygiene and teamwork as well as a range of practical options, anything from cooking shellfish dishes to developing menus.
Career opportunities for Professional Chefs is unlimited, whether it be in Hotel and Restaurants, Contract Catering, Welfare Catering, Event Catering to name a few. A demanding, yet rewarding career that has endless travel opportunities both within the UK and internationally.
As a Professional Chef student you will gain work experience with a college approved employer.

This course leads to...
Progression from this course can either lead into industry as a professional chef or you can continue onto a HNC Hospitality management qualification within the college.
Level 2 VRQ in professional cookery or Level 2 NVQ in professional cookery or equivalent relevant experience in industry. English and Maths GCSE grades D or above or grade 3 or above.
