Course information
This Sport and Exercise Science HNC is designed to provide a foundation for anyone wishing to enter the field of sports, exercise science and coaching and is geared towards a career in the fast growing sports industry. It aims to introduce students to the theory and application of sports, exercise science and coaching in various environments.
A key part of the course is the coaching placement through which learners gain practical coaching experience. Specialist areas such as psychology of sports coaching, training fitness and testing, lifestyle coaching, coaching practice and skill development and sports massage as well as many other related subjects make this an exciting and worthwhile course.
Note: Students are required to purchase personal equipment e.g. clothing and books.
Skills and Knowledge Developed: You will be expected to undertake regular home study on this course. Practical modules will take place in the sports gym or outside with tutor support and guidance, and extra independent learning sessions will be timetabled to allow access to specialist equipment and resources.

Qualifications
Higher National Certificate in Sport and Exercise Science

This qualification prepares students for higher level careers in the sports and leisure industry.
Progression is through direct entry into the industry or through further study at HND top-up or degree level.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grade C or above (must include English and preferably maths) and any of the following:
• A-levels
• BTEC national certificate or diploma
• NVQ Level 3, advanced diploma
• Relevant Access qualification
Relevant industrial experience may be considered for mature students. Equally important are the drive and determination to succeed, a good level of written English, and ‘employability’.
All potential candidates will be expected to attend an interview and will be assessed prior to enrolment onto the programme.
Applicants should hold a total UCAS Tariff points score from relevant qualifications of at least 96 points.
