What to expect from the course

These qualifications are designed for adults (19+) who have been out of full-time education for some time and are aiming to progress into higher education study. This one year course offers a flexible and comprehensive range of modules. Students select a personalised course that can meet a variety of outcomes. These are applied to sport and exercise through classroom study, discussion and practical workshops.

This intensive programme also includes units to help develop your study and research skills and to assist with your personal development. You will also learn important study skills relevant to studying science, including undertaking effective research, collecting and analysing scientific data and writing experiment reports and essays.
Additional modules will help you develop your study and research skills and assist with your personal development for further study.

You will be taught in various ways including lectures, workshops, seminars, self-directed study, research exercises, group-learning and work-based activity and tutorials. You will be assessed through a combination of assignments and controlled assessments set by the awarding body. Modules include Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, Sports Psychology, Sports Injuries, Skill acquisition.

There is a tutorial session built into the timetable to allow you to have a one to one with your personal tutor. In addition, there is a study support class which is available to all students to further support your studies.


Qualifications

The Diploma is made up of units that amount to 60 Level 3 credits. The 60 credits include 45 credits in graded units and 15 credits in ungraded study skills. The course is made up of 15-20 units at 3-6 credits each.

The number of Tariff points for the Access to HE Diploma varies between 48 and 144 points, dependent on your grade profile.

All units are marked against the assessment criteria for the units and then awarded a pass, merit, or distinction against QAA grading outcomes.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

On successful completion of the course, you will be able to progress on to a degree program at university or any higher education study in the following areas, sport and exercise science, physiotherapy, sports nutrition, sports therapy, sports coaching, and sports psychology.

Entry Requirements

You must be aged 19 or over and have GCSE English and maths at grade A-C / 4-9 or Level 2 Equivalent or be working towards. These are set to mirror the requirements set by most universities, but please be aware that some universities will not accept equivalent qualifications such as functional skills. These can be undertaken as part of your course at the college but may incur further costs.

Fees

This course is only available to learners aged 19 and over. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.

24 years old or over or 19-23 and have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) at the start of the course? Fees are payable, but you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course.
