Course Details
- Applying for A Levels: When you complete your application form, you can apply for just one subject, and add the other subjects into the 'Career Path' section. For example, complete the application for Psychology A Level, and type 'Sociology A Level and English A Level' in the 'Career Path' box. You do not need to complete multiple applications for each subject. If we need more information, we will contact you.
What to expect from the course
- A Level Chemistry gives students a solid grounding in foundation chemistry. The course introduces the chemical reactivity of atoms and molecules, which provides a detailed understanding of their structures. We will also explore the development and use of periodic tables.
The Practical Skills Assignments (PSA) part of the course allows you to gain credit towards your qualification for work done in routine class practicals.

This is studied as a two-year A Level programme alongside two other A Levels to make a full time study programme. The course is externally assessed.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free
When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.
Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite
The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.
Career pathways
- Successful completion enables students to either enter Higher Education or seek employment in chemical related industries.
A Level Chemistry is also essential for pharmacy and medicine. Chemistry graduates work in a wide range of industries, as well as in management.

Entry Requirements
The most important entry requirement is that you are committed and determined to do well.
You need to achieve a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, with at least 2 at Grade 5. These must include Maths and English.
To study this particular A level, you need to achieve Grade 6 in GCSE Sciences and Maths
Fees
If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent), you won't have to pay any fees for this course.
24 years old or over or 19-23 and have 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) at the start of the course, fees are payable by all students unless sponsored by an employer.
Fee for24/25 is 500.00
