What to expect from the course

The VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Beauty is a qualification that has been specifically designed to introduce you to practical beauty therapy skills. This qualification has been designed for the 14-18 age groups, and will develop the knowledge and skills to prepare learners for further study.

You will have your beauty therapy skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in beauty therapy and will provide you with the foundation for further learning. It will also enable you to perform your own basic services and to assist others in the salon. This qualification offers a wide range of mandatory and optional units designed to introduce learners to beauty therapy treatments in preparation for further study at level 2.

This qualification will enable you to improve the appearance of the hands and feet with basic manicure and pedicure techniques. You will also learn how to provide relaxing skin care treatments, cleansing, toning and moisturising treatments and you will learn how to give advice on skin care, and basic day make-up application.

To further enhance your skills, you will also cover artistic and creative elements on your course such as nail art, themed face painting and photographic make-up.

To underpin this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety and you will also develop an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the skills required to support you in the beauty therapy industry such as salon reception duties, and working with others.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

Microsoft Office 365 - Free

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

Once you successfully complete your course you may be able to progress to the next level, following a satisfactory interview with a tutor. If you’ve finished your Level 3 course you will be offered advice and guidance from our Careers Advisors on how to apply for a place at University through UCAS, or how to apply for a job or an apprenticeship.

Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 courses generally last for one year.

Entry Requirements

GCSEs grades 1-2 or E to G or equivalent, including Foundation Awards and Entry Level Certificates.

Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, and you need to study at Entry or Level 1 to progress to Level 2, you won't have to pay any fees for this course.
