What to expect from the course

This level one course is a one year, full-time study programme aimed at young people (aged 16-18 or under 25 with an EHCP) who wish to embark on the first step of a career pathway.

The programme builds the necessary practical skills, knowledge-base and behaviours that are key to this specific industry and to support progression on to higher levels of study. It will include a combination of classroom, practical and wider enrichment experiences to build young people’s confidence, resilience, wellbeing, positive communication skills, social citizenship and be focused on the young person’s career goals.

This qualification is designed as a ‘carousel’ course which gives learners a taste of different vocational subjects within the Hospitality & Catering industry, and will build your personal development. It is perfect for learners who have not yet made up their mind about which subject area they would like to study. On completion of the course, learners can progress to a Level 2 qualification in one of these subject areas.

This one year course is a full-time programme which will include Mathematics & English GCSE.

This course is for you if you are unsure of future career paths and want to try a number of areas to help you discover your passion. This course is also suited to those who have fallen out of love with education as you work with tutors to build your confidence through clear delivery and feedback.

At The City of Liverpool College, we will help you to develop the skills that employers want you to have. We have a focus on your career and not just the course you are on. As such, alongside your studies you will have the opportunity to undertake work experience that interests you.

You will be taught in various ways including lectures, workshops, seminars, self-directed study, research exercises, group-learning and work-based activity and tutorials. You will be assessed through a combination of assignments and controlled assessments set by the awarding body.

Through studying a variety of options, you will widen your knowledge enabling you to make informed career decisions upon completion of the course. The vocational units are at the heart of what we do. There is a tutorial session built into the timetable to allow you to have a one to one with your progress leader who can help you with your pastoral needs.

Academy Restaurant

Duke Street campus is also home to the College’s Academy Restaurant. Often referred to by it’s customers as Liverpool’s hidden gem, the restaurant serves top class cuisine, at highly competitive prices. Food is expertly prepared by professional chef/tutors and young chefs in training and offers students a range of discounts at different times of the year.

When you become a student of the College you’ll receive full access to Microsoft Office 365. This allows you to install the software on your own computer and other devices at home, completely free of charge.

Onsite Sports Facilities/Fitness Suite

The college has excellent sports and fitness facilities at its Roscoe Street campus. Students pay a one-off membership fee for all year round usage of weekly supervised gym sessions, as well as access to a number of sporting clubs and events.


Career pathways

Through your consistent demonstration of exceptional standards of behaviour, punctuality and attendance, you will be able to progress on to a Level 2 course of your choosing. Usually this will be in Hospitality & Catering

Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for learners without many previous qualifications, and who have not yet achieved a grade 3 or 4 in GCSE maths or English.



Fees

If you are 16-18 years old at the start of your course, studying at The City of Liverpool College is free. If you are aged between 19-23 and don’t already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, and you need to study at Entry or Level 1 to progress to Level 2, you won't have to pay any fees for this course.
